“Through our experiences with using Canvas as an LMS to support our face-to-face training, we sought feedback from students and trainers to identify opportunities for improvement in the products that we had created. We engaged Oppida to help us with this project and they were able to accurately interpret this feedback in order to address some challenges our stakeholders were experiencing. They did this in a timely manner and the end result has been a much improved learning experience for both learners and trainers”.

“Oppida was really good; very professional. Everything the team provided was high quality and very detailed. The fact that everyone was communicating online through Slack and Google Docs was very reassuring too.”

Brief

HIA partnered with Oppida to upgrade the learning design and navigation of 18 units of competency in order to improve existing learning experience. As part of the project, Oppida created custom designed home pages, restructured existing content topics, introduced topic overviews and summaries for large topics, adjusted assessments and integrated a key LTI solution which enables learners to seamlessly search for specific content. Further to this, Oppida established a student onboarding pathway to effectively support students through their transition to digital learning with HIA.

Project dates

November 2020 - February 2021

Challenge

One of the core challenges of this project was strict timeframes to execute numerous changes for all 18 units of competency for HIA. The project spanned the Christmas period, which also posed risk to effective and timely collaboration due to key staff being on leave.

Solution

To ensure Oppida met all deliverables according to the required timeframes, we developed a comprehensive project plan with strong focus on milestones, back-up resources, awareness of risks, need for collaboration and proactive communication. Oppida also ensured that extra resources were allocated over the Christmas break to stay on track and, as a result, completed numerous milestones 2 weeks ahead of schedule. This allowed extra time for final review and amendments.

Oppida enhanced the learning design of all 18 units of competency which substantially improved content navigation and assessment accessibility for the learners. Our team also custom designed onboarding course features numerous video recordings to further support the students through their digital transition and set them up for a e-learning success. In addition, Oppida created additional trainer resources and resolved some administrative challenges to go above and beyond the existing project scope.

Brief

Oppida redesigned one HIA short course to a “golden standard” to unlock HIA’s digital learning experience and potential. This project required strong collaboration with an HIA subject matter expert for Oppida to completely restructure the course content, build a custom designed home page, identify content gaps and enhance subsequent content through use of custom designed and externally sourced rich media, learning activities, infographics, course maps, module overviews.

Project dates

November 2020 - January 2021

Challenge

One of the core challenges of this project was the short timeframes to complete a full redevelopment of the course to showcase the “gold standard” and unlock HIA’s digital learning potential whilst working with subject matter experts who were relatively new to the LMS and digital learning. Further to this, the course was highly technical and the content needed to be updated from state based to national standards which required a new approach.

Solution

In order to raise the learning design of HIA’s course material to a “golden standard” and unlock the Association’s digital learning potential, Oppida worked through a full redevelopment of the online course by restructuring 14 topics into 5 cohesive modules. Our team introduced superior e-learning navigation through a custom built home page, module course maps and course overviews/summaries.

As part of the course development, Oppida infused re-structured content with visual stimuli (infographics, videos, graphics and images), added interactive learning activities to increase learner engagement, and produced custom designed engaging rich media (teaching videos).
Oppida ensured that the course redevelopment was executed in an agile, highly collaborative and efficient manner with all key stakeholders invested to contribute to the final success of the course for the learners.
