About Australian Computer Society (ACS)
The Australian Computer Society (ACS) is the largest professional Australian body for information and communications technology (ICT) professionals, with over 42,000+ members across the continent. Founded in 1966, the ACS has accredited over 950 ICT educational programs for Australian universities and leading training providers.
Oppida was requested to create a working prototype in Canvas using a current ACS course on Moodle. Next, Oppida scoped an LMS migration project that involved designing homepages, customised stylesheets and learning design processes. ACS also requested Oppida provide light learning design enhancements to improve the quality of the student experience in the new LMS.
After signing up for a Canvas 12-month trial, ACS needed more time and resources to explore how their chosen learning management system (LMS) could help the company achieve its goals. In addition, there needed to be more clarity among the team as to how Canvas could increase the student experience and cater to their complex enrolment and administrative needs. Finally, before implementing Canvas with tutors and students, ACS needed to see what was possible.
Oppida’s customised solution
Oppida developed an initial Canvas prototype using an existing ACS online course, including content and assessments. This included a sample homepage and many example content pages optimising the full functionality of the LMS.
Following the prototype’s success, ACS decided to go ahead with a full Canvas trial to review user experience with beta groups of students and tutors. Oppida migrated three complete courses from Moodle to Canvas for this trial.
In addition to the migration, Oppida designed a complete learning design stylesheet for the ACS to help them develop consistency in all the online content it produces. The Oppida team also enhanced the administrative elements of their digital course delivery to improve the student enrolment process – made all the more complex by the increased number of new students each week that the ACS experiences. Oppida worked with ACS subject matter experts to enhance assessments, student engagement, and some targeted content.
