About Housing Industry Association (HIA)

Housing Industry Association (HIA) is the official body of Australia’s home building industry. HIA is Australia’s peak residential building, renovation and development industry association. Its mission is to promote policies and provide services which enhance members’ business practices, products and profitability, consistent with the highest standards of professional and commercial conduct.

HIA supports members, helps the residential housing industry speak with a united voice and promotes industry standards.

Project brief

HIA partnered with Oppida to upgrade the learning design and navigation of 18 units of competency to improve the existing learning experience. As part of the project, Oppida created custom-designed home pages, restructured content topics, introduced topic overviews and summaries, adjusted assessments, and integrated a key LTI solution enabling learners to search for specific content seamlessly. Further to this, Oppida established a student onboarding pathway to effectively support students through their transition to digital learning with HIA.

Project challenge 

One of the core challenges of this project was strict timeframes to execute numerous changes for all 18 units of competency for HIA. In addition, the project spanned the Christmas period, which also posed a risk to effective and timely collaboration due to crucial staff being on leave.

Oppida’s customised solution 

To ensure Oppida met all deliverables according to the required timeframes, we developed a comprehensive project plan with a solid focus on milestones, backup team members, risk mitigation, collaboration strategies, and proactive communication plans. As a result, Oppida completed numerous milestones two weeks ahead of schedule – allowing spare time for final review and amendments.

Oppida enhanced the learning design of all 18 units of competency, which substantially improved content navigation and assessment accessibility for the learners. Our team also custom-designed the onboarding course, featuring numerous video recordings to support the students through their digital transition and set them up for e-learning success. In addition, Oppida created additional trainer resources and resolved some administrative challenges to go above and beyond the existing project scope.

Part 2

Project brief

Oppida redesigned one HIA unit of competency to a “gold standard” to unlock HIA’s digital learning experience and potential.

Project challenge 

Oppida was under a tight timeframe to complete this full redevelopment of a unit of competency with subject matter experts who were relatively new to the LMS and digital learning. Furthermore, the unit of competency chosen was highly technical, and the content needed to be updated from state to national standards, which required a new approach. 

Oppida’s customised solution 

Requiring intense collaboration with an HIA subject matter expert, Oppida restructured the unit content, built a custom-designed home page and identified content gaps. 

Then, applying best practice learning design principles, we enhanced learning material through custom-designed and externally sourced rich media, active learning opportunities, infographics, course maps and module overviews.

Oppida ensured that the course redevelopment was executed in an agile, highly collaborative and efficient manner, with all critical stakeholders invested in contributing to the final success of the course for the learners.
