About Rural Financial Counselling Service (RFCS)
Rural Financial Counselling Service (RFCS) Gippsland provides agricultural and small rural businesses with free, confidential and independent planning and support services. RFCS Gippsland offices are conveniently located across a service region covering the whole of south east Victoria – from smaller acreage properties of south east Melbourne surrounds to as far as the New South Wales border, taking in farming and fishing regions of Gippsland and the coast.
Project Brief
Oppida was commissioned to design, develop, and publish a complete online learning program that fills the gap between the diploma course and the learning needs of rural financial counsellors on the ground. Further, Oppida was asked to review the RFCS tech stack and recommend the most effective and cost-effective LMS for the rollout of this pilot course.
Project challenge
The project had a strict budget and timeline. Furthermore, one of the key stakeholders responsible for content creation did not have prior experience designing online learning.
Oppida’s customised solution
To start with, Oppida consulted key stakeholders to understand RFCS digital needs and propose the most appropriate tech stack while simultaneously setting up development processes for the first phase of the course content. Oppida ran weekly stand-ups to ensure the project stayed on track, while coordinating additional LD meetings to support and guide the content creation process and enable knowledge transfer.
To provide RFCS with an exceptional learning experience while faced with a strict budget, Oppida added sound bites and interactive H5P objects to improve course engagement. In addition, Oppida installed a plugin that allowed learners to take notes at the end of each topic. These notes could be exported or shared with mentors to encourage continual self-reflection and to foster a community of support, which is essential given the dispersed nature of rural work.
